Outline For Question

  1. Intro.
    1. Present Historical Context - Constitution was put into action in 1789, the writers of the constitution gave the option for others to amend or add on in the future.
    2. CLEARLY Present Claim (Restate the Question) The constitution has been interpreted in different ways.
    3. BRIEFLY present three ideas to be discussed - Second amendment changes giving women the right to vote and the freeing of slaves
      1. DO NOT PRESENT DETAILS, FACTS, or DATES
  2. Idea 1 - Gun control overtime
    1. Purchase and use of guns have changed a lot since 1789
    2. Gun control started in the 1920's because of gang violence.
    3. Really started after JFK's assassination, before that guns were sold without a background check (ended in 1968)
    4. 1989 Semi Auto banned after Stockton playground shooting
    5. 1990 Gun free zones were created
3. Idea 2
  1. Slavery in America
  2. 1619 African slaves arrived in Virginia
  3. Declaration of Independence declared all men are created equal (Slavery still went on)
  4. Three Fifths Compromise was implemented between the North and South (1787)
  5. Slavery ended December 6, 1865 when the 13th amendment was ratified
4. Idea 3
  1. Women's right to vote
  2. Susan B. Anthony and 15 other women were arrested for attempting to vote (New York, 1772)
  3. 19th amendment August 18, 1920
5. Conclusion

  1. These topics will continue to be debated and different amendments will be added to the constitution in the future
  2. America has interpreted the constitution in different ways based in the current events and factors, the point of the amendment is to change a law or a rule for the better.
