- How did it feel to watch your own performance? Overall I felt good to watch it and it was nice to get it over with. I saw some things that could have been done better and I took that into mind.
- How did it feel to assess yourself using the rubric? I feel like I'm usually a bit harder on myself than the teacher would be, but overall an expectable grade.
- What are you most proud of with this speech? I'm most proud of choosing a fairly mature topic and going in depth about it.
- What was the most challenging part of this speech? When going over my speech I ended with a 2 minute and 20 second time, but when I actually did my speech I finished with a 1 minute and 58 seconds. It was challenging to talk in a slow calm manner while doing the actual presentation.

1. Freedom of the press. Singapore does not have freedom of press, in US not as strict. Singapore should adapt to what the US uses.
People could get offended, you should not be able to publish whatever.
2. Freedom of speech Unpatriotic. If you oppose freedom of speech people cannot express their thoughts.
No freedom of speech is more respectful. Wanted them to be more civil.
3. Freedom of Assembly. Protesting against the law. (minimum wage workers)

Reflecting On the Podcast
- What are you most proud of with this podcast? I am very proud of the amount of time and effort that I put into the podcast planning and the actual podcast. It was pretty difficult to tie in smooth transitions with the research that I put in but after many attempts, I feel like my final product was at the best of my ability.
- What was the biggest challenge with the podcast ? My biggest challenge was planning it out and writing the script. I had a lot of bumps and I even had to change my entire angle but it became for the better.
- What do you wish had more time to fine tune? I wish I had more time to record because when recording I felt rushed to get the project done.
- What unintended learning did you discover? I didn't think that a podcast was structured very specifically, but now with the different steps I know that good bridges make the podcast better.
- How did the interviews go? How did you build rapport with your interviewees? Share an excerpt from an interview? My interview did really well. When the interviewee becolmes comfortable, you are able to get more information out of them. During the conclusion of the interview when I asked the question, "Is there anything else you'd like to add?" I feel like my interviewee, Isabella, loosened up. Her opinion got more clear and she explained her idea on politics in school very well.
- How successful were you listening closely during interviews and asking thoughtful follow up questions? Share an except from an interview. I feel like I asked some good follow up questions that made the interview sound more like a conversation. When I was interviewing Justin, I asked him. "Do you think there are more arguments or debates about politics in school?" He responded with "It's really just arguments from what I've seen and experienced, because kids haven't matured enough at our age to really understand the meaning of a solid debate." I replied with, " If other kids argue with you, would you argue back or would you try to settle things down?" He responded with. "Everyone want to settle things down, but sometimes impulse takes over and the argument just erupts."

Government 101
1. Monarchy -- A government by one ruler such as a king or queen. Passed down from one generation to the next in the same family, hereditary.
2. Oligarchy -- A government by an ruling elite group of people. The rulers make decisions to benefit themselves.
3. Democracy -- The rules and decisions are made by a majority (51%). A super majority is 60%.
4. Republic -- Decisions are held accountable to the law. The majority doesn’t make the final decision. The decision is up to the courts.
5. Anarchy -- There is no government. People are allowed to make their own decisions. This includes defending their own land, property, and themselves.
Why does America have federal and state governments?
The federal government can deal with international problems.
America has federal and state governments for a variety of reasons. The federal government can administer the country by creating common laws and dealing with international issues. The state government handles small and local problems while the federal government handles larger issues. The founding fathers didn’t want a British style government where the king and his parliament had all of the power to make decisions from taxation on tea all the way to declaring war. With a balance of power between federal and state governments, America would be able to govern the people more efficiently and respectfully.

Band: 2016 Music Festival Concert Reflection
What are my responsibilities leading up to the performance, in terms of my own practicing? My responsibilities are to practice and fully understand my piece before the concert. (Practice for at least 15 minutes a day)
What are my responsibilities on stage during a performance? One of my responsibilities on stage is to have my music in order so there is no shuffling during the concert. There is also no talking on stage because not only does that look unprofessional, but the crowd would most likely hear your conversation because of the microphones.
What will I do differently in preparing for the next concert? I feel like I did a pretty good job preparing for this concert, but one thing I could have done better was getting off stage. I need to pay more attention to my surroundings so I know what's going on.What do I need to be doing while someone is performing? I need to be respectful by keeping quiet and listening to the piece. What should I do if people around me are not being good audience members? I should tell them to stop messing around, because it is disrespectful to the others who want to listen to the music and the people on stage. What will I do differently as an audience member for next concert? In the next concert I will bring more energy to the crowd by clapping more passionately.Dr. Cross taught me that when we are all thinking, breathing and counting alike the music sounds significantly better.I am most proud of our overall playing in the concert, it is not easy to play in front of a crowd but i think we executed very well.

RLA 1st Quarter Reflection
1) What have you improved on in RLA so far
I feel like my author craft has improved and I can fit things in with a somewhat smooth touch, since my author craft has improved, I also notice craft moves while I'm reading and that helps me understand the story better. Before I developed this skill some books were confusing, because I didn’t really get the full meaning and message so having this skill makes reading more enjoyable.
2) What could you improve. I need to improve on adding more reflection to my essay to help the reader understand what I am thinking. If the reader has a good idea of what I was thinking in the beginning of the story and what I was thinking at the end of the story than my character change is obvious and my writing piece would have change.
3) What is your goal for improvement though the year. My goal is to become a better writer overall and incorporate what I learned in class to my writing pieces. This will make them more successful and fluent when writing and will automatically cover most if not all the objectives on the rubric.

Answering Essential Questions
Why do people move?
What does it mean to be American?
Why does it matter who writes history?
Was Columbus an important historical figure?
Restate the question in order to form a thesis or "claim" with 3 possible answers.
For example: What does it mean to be Irish.
Restate as: Being Irish has different meaning for different people which could include their social, political and economic beliefs.
Social: religion music dance
Political: Independence Democracy
Economic: Manual Labor Famers and fisherman
Tips for writing in SS: write in 3rd person (no I), you need a claim, you need detailed evidence, some type of conclusion, plan ahead
All About that W
All About that W
“Line Up!” It was 4:15, 45 minutes before game time and the evening sun was upon us. “Down to the right, ready begin.”
We all had to do various stretches for 10 seconds each. Running half speed plays was a good way to get in rhythm before the game, before I knew it the National Anthem was about to begin. Everybody was standing, the Singapore and the American flag waving with the wind and the heat waves were appearing from close by indicating that the heat was most definitely there.
The whistle blew, than the short burst of “butterflies” fell upon me. I took the field on defence first lining up as a cornerback. Multiple drives were exchanged before something was able to get going.
“Down set… Hike!”
The play was off, carefully but quickly I was trying to read what was going on. Before I knew it the ball came my way. “Interception! Picked off my number 15 on the Falcons.” With a run back of 20 yards and a set up of great field position for my team, I was hyped. A few plays later we scored and the snowball had started rolling. The next drive I came down with another pick, making the first half a breeze for my team and I.
Everybody was exhausted, we had all felt like we played a whole game. Us and the other team inclusive were all laying on the ground, but after I caught my breath I thought it would be smart to practice and get some reps in. I needed to look over the playbook and also tell coach about any adjustments the other team made.
We got back on the field and we could tell the other team turned it around at their half break. The second half became a shootout and shootouts really make the players tired especially if they were in every play, offence and defence. The team was getting lazy and bigger plays started appearing for the other team. It was time for a pep talk.
“Come on! We have to stop them out there. They are running all over us.” I yelled. It was very apparent that things were falling apart. A few drives later they were well back in the game, one of which was my fault. They flipped the ball out to my side of the field and the running back burnt everybody except for me. I quickly pursued him and tried to hit him out of bounds instead of performing the traditional tackle which costed our team a touchdown. My coach gave me an earful about that one. All my anger from that mistake went into intensity. The next drive we were on, I got the defence pumped up and it looked like the energy transferred to the offence.
“Touchdown Falcons!”
We were one score ahead and on the last play of the game they still had an enormous opportunity to send this into overtime.
“One more play!” I yelled
“Down… set… hike!”
“Pass, Pass.”
When the ball left the quarterbacks arms it all felt like slow motion and what felt like a minute after the throw the announcer said
“And it's picked off!”
Instant relief rushed through my body. It came down to the wire, but all that mattered is that we got the W.

Group Presentations on NA issues
Should the line be on Native American soil
Perspective 1 Does not fully agree, very difficult and it will affect the Native American. Political leaders agree. Thinks the people shouldn't be arrested
Perspective 2 Needs more oil, needs it to go through. Starts construction after protest and after project is done will take it down.
Casinos
Perspective 1 over 200 years of being here, they need to accept change
Perspective 2 Profit for Indians only, do not want to share because they were the first ones here and they do not want to share. It will create jobs.
Legacy of Indian Schools
Perspectives 1 Doing them a favor for teaching their opinion, teach them the American life.
Perspectives 2 The schools were meant for teaching them, but actually abused. They were beat and whipped. After graduation and became depressed
Media vs Reality
Perspective 1 Views the lone ranger as racist and causing negative.
Perspective 2 the movie shows that Native Americans strong and smart
Native American Artifacts
Perspective 1 Believes that artifact should be returned, because it means a lot to them.

Reliability
Reliability - Trustworthy, Reliability
Biased - Towards or against, everything is biased
Background Knowledge - Historical Knowledge
Inference - Infer
Sources that conflict - There is a second side of the story. Opposite sides always.
This cartoon makes fun of Hilary's e-mail scandal and the lack of pressure of the FBI put on her. When she said not as bad as I feared, she expected more of an investigation as did everybody who knew about this. The FBI is blindfolded and almost not even trying to hit her with the knife (knife being some sort of charge). This cartoon is biased towards the all of the people who don't like Hilary Clinton. This cartoon was drawn by Dave Granlund (bottom right corner) who make fun of all parties and he is a reliable source because in the past he has made many other cartoons that have been published. The other side of the story is that Hilary never had classified e-mails on her server.

PE Goal
I would like to improve my 200 meter time by at least two seconds in one month. I will do this by eating right, running more and building up my agility.
Considering Perspectives
My name is Alex Sanford, I am a 13 years old from Boise Idaho and I was raised in a Catholic Family. My dad was born in Los Gatos, California but later moved to Washington and graduated at Washington State University. My mom was born in Uzbekistan. I can speak English and Russian, but my parents and I almost always speak english at home. We speak Russian with my grandma (mom's side) and we spoke English with my grandpa (dad's side). Now I only have one grandparent and it is my grandma. My mom's dad passed when I was three and my dad's mom passed before I turned one. On September 11, 2015 my Grandpa died at the age of 95 in his house in Port Ludlow Washington. I didn't know him that well, but he was a big inspiration. In WWII he flew a PB4Y-2 four engine bomber and for as long as I can remember I wanted to be a pilot. I want to go to the Colorado Air Force Academy and after my military career I want to go into commercial flying. It's Hard to believe, but I never wanted to do anything else. As for my grandma she is the loving caring person that helps me accomplish my goals, whether that might be inspiration or teaching me something new, I could not have asked for a better grandma, or a better family.

RLA Blurb
14 year old Arthur Kingsley's life is about to change. How could his great life even have a hint of bitterness in it? His parents with a 20 year marriage is starting to crumbling apart, he is starting to catch on to what is happening, but he cannot understand how this all started and how it will really end for him and his family. He will have to cope with a horrible issue that is so close to him, but just out of his reach.

Globalization Post
- Paste your political cartoon here.
- What aspect of globalization your cartoon is criticising? (Highlight one)
cultural/social technological/environmental political/economic
- Which visual techniques or literary devices (from the list above) did you use in your cartoon? Explain why you used it and why you think it is effective.
symbolism - using an object to stand for an idea.
personification- human qualities are given to animals, objects or ideas.
Symbolism has a witty way of showing what is actually happening without actually literally giving it away, also that is the reason we used personification. They back up each other very effectively.
- Explain the message regarding globalization.
In the cartoon we see three corporations, being held up by table legs. They legs represent the objectives and factors that make these corporations thrive. This is starting to take away job opportunities in the United States. The goal of this is to make people think about job opportunities in the United States.

Band Reflection
What are you most proud of from your performance at the concert?
I am most proud of my posture, I had some trouble in the beginning of the year.
What do you need to work on to improve for the next performance?
My articulation could improve, my notes at times sounded sloppy. What does our band, as a whole, need to work on to improve for the next concert?
We need to work on staying at the same tempo. What did you learn from performing in the concert?
I learned how to collaborate better. What did you learn by watching others perform?
Watching the older kids inspires me to keep doing music so one day I can sounds as good as them.

Tree Hugger Post

The idea of a mile high structure is very interesting. Its goal seems to be a good one and it can about 55,000 people. This will basically be a garden to experiment with plant and it will be useful for other things too.
This seems like a great idea, but it would cost billions of dollars. Also Japan has many tsunamis and earthquakes, which could easily destroy the structure and kill tens of thousands. Also if you were to build this structure, it would be hard to place it directly above water. Frankly if this were to be successful it would help research a lot, but it just doesn't seems practical.
